Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for operations
  2. Prepare pumping and fluid systems
  3. Make up required fishing equipment
  4. Run in hole to latch fish
  5. Progress to latch and retrieve fish

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete well servicing fishing operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements throughout work activities

demonstrates completion of conducting fishing operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying and applying pumping and fluid parameters

confirming requirements to be run down hole

assembling and recording fishing tool/s details

setting up fishing assembly

running tubing/rods to required depth

latching fish and trip out of hole

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of conducting fishing operations through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures

understanding of different techniques fishing

pump operations

identifying volumes

circulating systems

convert metric to imperial and imperial to metric.

types of equipment being used

maintaining good oilfield practice

basic understanding of the process of fishing and the functionality of the various types of equipment used.

identifying components of individual fishing tools.

determining well bore conditions

determining the causes of hang-ups

procedure for latching may include – pick up weight String weight, slack off weight, required rotations, direction of rotations, release procedures, tripping parameters.

identifying hole volumes (pipe displacement, tubing volume)

identifying tripping speed

identifying over pull weights

identifying tubing/rods specifications
